Celebrating the 20th anniversary of the Prince Claus Chair

On 6 December, we celebrated the 20th anniversary of the Prince Claus Chair (PCC) with Her Majesty Queen Máxima of the Netherlands.

The PCC anniversary event honours the life and legacy of Prince Claus (1926-2002), who, in his time, challenged thinking on North-South relations and equity. The event focused on climate transition, exploring where we are and how we can move forward with global cooperation at the forefront.

Guiding these conversations were renowned speakers Vera SongweBart van den HurkJoost de Laat, PCC chairholders Sebastián Ureta, Fatima DentonKhayaat FakierVeena Srinivasan and Gustavo García López. Deputy Secretary General of the United Nations, Amina Mohammed, reflected briefly on debates ongoing at COP28 in Dubai. Moderator Lynn Zebeda, guided the dialogue on a just climate transition from various perspectives which included dimensions of gender, socioeconomics and development finance — taking in our learnings with renewed energy and inspiration. We got a special treat with incredible intermezzos by choir Dekoor and spoken word from poet Lisette Ma Neza.

We continue to be inspired by Prince Claus, who was disruptive and innovative in his time by challenging our thinking on North-South relations and equity and we will challenge ourselves to have a similar approach to Just Transitions with global cooperation and social and economic equity at the forefront. Thank you to all who joined us!
